I am an engineer – and I ask uncomfortable questions
I ask questions that hardly anyone else asks – or that many no longer dare to ask.
These are questions that inevitably arise from the laws of physics. These questions may be uncomfortable. Nevertheless, they are necessary. The same applies to answers that are based on physics rather than political objectives.
My background
For decades, I have been working as an engineer in the field of water and environmental engineering.
In particular, my work focuses on:
- Energy and material flows
- Hydraulic and other flow systems
- Interactions between water, air and energy
- Complex technical and natural processes
This experience leads to a different way of looking at things:
→ I view systems as a whole – not in isolation or as mere parts of a whole
This is because interventions in complex systems rarely affect just one area. They can trigger interactions whose consequences only become apparent after a delay or at a great distance.
What is missing from the climate debate
The current debate focuses almost exclusively on ‘man-made climate change’ and the role of CO₂. What is often missing is a comprehensive examination of the physical processes and the far-reaching changes that humans have caused over the past decades.
The questions that need to be asked include:
- How have the Earth and human use of its surface changed over recent decades?
- How does the Earth’s climate system actually work?
- What effect can CO₂ have within the complex climate system?
- What significance do water vapour, evaporation and clouds have?
- What role does wind play in the distribution of heat and moisture?
- How are energy and water transported in the atmosphere?
- What are the consequences of soil sealing, deforestation and changes in land use?
- What happens if we continuously extract kinetic energy from atmospheric flows?
- What climatic consequences might the massive expansion of wind energy have?
- What will happen if humanity continues along its current path unchanged?
It is precisely these questions that form the focus of my work.
Science must not stop at providing an explanation that suits political agendas. It must remain independent, examine interrelationships, question assumptions and also explore uncomfortable possibilities.
This website and the book ‘Windwahn’
This website is not a political project. It pursues neither economic nor party-political interests. Its aim is to present physical relationships in an accessible way and to spark a discussion that has scarcely taken place to date.
The focus is on the potential impacts of large-scale wind energy use on:
- atmospheric energy flows
- wind and airflow systems
- heat and moisture transport
- the global water cycle
- weather and climate
Other important aspects of wind energy use – such as the protection of birds and insects, noise, infrasound, raw material consumption, land use or the destruction of forests – are deliberately not explored in depth. Not because these topics are unimportant, but because there are already numerous publications on them. My focus is on a more fundamental question:
What happens to the climate system when we increasingly extract energy from one of its most important transport mechanisms?
My aim and my objective
I do not provide simple answers, nor do I claim to be able to conclusively answer every open question. I pose questions that arise from physical relationships. These are the questions that should have been answered before any large-scale intervention in the atmospheric system.
I am convinced that:
Anyone discussing climate must discuss energy and material flows.
Anyone discussing wind must discuss the transport of heat and water.
Anyone who uses wind energy must also discuss the consequences.
My aim is to help ensure that the discussion on climate and energy is once again conducted openly, critically and on a sound physical basis.
For without an understanding of the system as a whole, conclusions remain incomplete – and political decisions may prove to have far-reaching consequences and be extremely costly.
